Over a period of eighty years, the book takes the reader through significant highlights of the author's life starting in Claiborne County, Tennessee to Middlesboro, Kentucky and other parts of the United States, ending in Golden, Colorado. It is written to entertain and enlighten the reader regarding what life was like growing up in Appalachia America and how that life has played out around other parts of the country. It includes some of the author's impact on other lives he came in contact with, as well as contributions he may have made in communities he has lived. The book also argues that hillbillies are much more than comic characters, as depicted in books, TV shows, and movies, and have made significant contributions to American life. Cases in point include President Abraham Lincoln born in Kentucky, President Andrew Jackson from Tennessee, Country Western music stars originating in Nashville, Tennessee, Elvis Presley (the King of Rock and Roll) from Tennessee, Sargent York , one of the heroes of World War II from
Tennessee, and Daniel Boone (who grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and North Carolina and the founder of Cumberland Gap (where the author grew up) that opened up the Wilderness Road, gateway to the Western United States). Boone and Lincoln are mentioned here because their grandfathers Squire Boone and Mordeci Lincoln were close friends of the author's ancestor Robert P. Stapleton when they lived in and attended the Quaker Church in Olney Valley, Pennsylvania in the 1700's. (This account is covered in the author's book STAPLETON CHRONICLES.) And the book also argues that hillbillies are not just "moonshiners" on the public dole, but are true contributors to all that has always made America the leader of the free world.
