Originally released as a Record Store Day vinyl exclusive in 2023,
Little Earthquakes: The B-Sides
collects 11 non-album tracks from
Tori Amos
' prolific early days onto one handy release. While hardly exhaustive -- hardcore devotees will notice the lack of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Thank You," and "Here. In My Head" -- crucial era-specific inclusions like "Upside Down," "Take to the Sky," and "Sweet Dreams" are all present, as well as fan favorites like "Sugar," "Flying Dutchman," "Ode to the Banana King (Part One)," and the original version of "Mary," which is said to have been one of the songs on
Earthquakes
' original version (a re-recorded version is also found on 2003's
Tales of a Librarian
). Playing like its own proper album,
The B-Sides
serves as yet another reminder of
Amos
' place as one of the strongest songwriters of her generation, and it's a must for any completionist who needs these gems on wax. [This compilation can also be found as part of 2022's deluxe box set Little Earthquakes: The Graphic Album, as well as on the 2015 deluxe edition bonus disc (albeit in a different order).] ~ Neil Z. Yeung
